Goanna Academy Partners with ETC to Deliver the Uphold Culture Program Across the Mid North Coast

We are proud to announce that as a result of our recent work on delivering Goanna Academy’s Uphold Culture program to First Nations communities across the Mid North Coast, we have been highlighted by the ETC (Enterprise & Training Company)  in the recent release of their annual 2024/2025 report (found here on page 14 https://etcltd.com.au/about-us/annual-report/). The meaningful partnership we hold with the ETC showcases our shared commitment to strengthening cultural identity, connection, and mental wellbeing.

The program recently launched at the Dunghutti Elders Council in South Kempsey — the birthplace of our Founder, Greg Inglis, a proud Dunghutti man. Returning home to lead this work is deeply significant for Greg and our team.

“Heading back to Kempsey and engaging with my mob who have registered for the program is incredibly special,” Greg said.

“Sharing my story and helping others embrace their cultural identity and mental health journey means a lot — especially being able to give back to my own Dunghutti community.”

About the Goanna Academy’s Uphold Culture Program

Across five culturally grounded workshops, the program empowers participants through:

  • Cultural Integration: Honouring culture and applying it confidently in daily life and work.
  • Balancing Identities: Navigating both cultural and mainstream worlds while staying true to self.
  • Mental Health Strategies: Building tools for resilience, wellbeing, and personal growth.
  • Supportive Yarning Circles: Creating a safe space for sharing experiences and community connection.

Our goal is to uplift culture, strengthen identity, and support First Nations people in their personal and professional journeys.

A Shared Commitment With ETC

ETC’s Workforce Australia General Manager, Julie Powick, highlighted the importance of this partnership:

“We are incredibly proud to partner with the Goanna Academy and Greg on this initiative. This program supports mental wellbeing and empowers individuals by celebrating and integrating their cultural heritage into their professional lives.”

We’re grateful to ETC for recognising the value of culturally led programs and for standing alongside us to support communities across the region.

Looking Ahead

At Goanna Academy, we believe culture is a foundation for healing, confidence, and success. Through this partnership with ETC, we’re creating stronger, more connected communities by empowering participants to embrace their identity and wellbeing.

We look forward to continuing this important work and walking alongside communities on their journey of growth, strength, and cultural pride.

We are proud and privileged to have our home on this land, and to be able to continue the long tradition of community coming together around food, begun thousands of years ago by First Nations peoples. As we stand together on this unceded land, we acknowledge that our First Nations people are the original custodians of this land and we recognise their deep connection to land, water, sky, and community which continues today. We pay our deep respects to community elders, past, present, and emerging, for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture, and the hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
